The Red Lion at Chelwood Gate, near Haywards Heath is an attractive 19th Century pub situated close to the beautiful Ashdown Forest. Popular with ramblers and families enjoying a day in the countryside, it’s the ideal destination for a pub lunch after a bracing winter walk.

Licensees Angelena and Greg Churcher were honoured with the Turnaround Pub of the Year award in 2016, for their hard work transforming the pub since they took it on in March 2015, massively increasing trade and giving the pub a new lease of life.

To the exterior, the pub has a pretty country pub frontage, with ample parking. Inside, the pub is bright and spacious, with plenty of seating and dining space, and an open fire to warm up by. To the rear, there is an extensive garden to enjoy on warmer days, complete with play equipment for the children.

Food here is of a very high standard, chef-prepared using the best local, seasonal ingredients. Whether you are looking for nibbles to accompany your drinks, a full three course meal, or your favourite pub dish, there’s something for everyone. Take a peek at the menu here.

On a Sunday, you can enjoy a delicious, home-cooked Sunday Lunch along with some relaxed live music from 2.30pm in the ‘Sunday Cool Off’, and Wednesday is Quiz Night from 7.30pm.
