Pub of the Week: The Ostrich, Colnbrook

Posted: 17th January 2017

An old coaching inn dating back to 1106, The Ostrich has been providing hospitality in Heathrow since long before air travel existed.  It’s a pub and hotel packed to the rafters with character - with oak beams, open fireplaces, crooked stairs and a cobbled courtyard. And while the bedrooms are stylishly designed to superb modern standards, they too elegantly capture the place’s history.

Fine fresh food is the order of the day, and all dishes are cooked to order by talented and creative chefs seven days a week. Dining options range from simple bar snacks and light lunches to classic evening meals, with the same first-class ingredients used right across the menu. On Sundays, a traditional roast dinner is available, offering a selection of sumptuous meats.

The Ostrich is the perfect place for a party or private dining experience. Parties of up to 50 guests can be catered for, and the function room makes an ideal venue for conferences and training courses - the room is fully equipped with digital presentation facilities.

Introduced in 2016, The Ostrich’s brand new bedrooms represent some of the most stylish and well-appointed accommodation near Heathrow. There are eleven  rooms - one feature room, six superior doubles and four standard doubles - each beautifully finished and providing everything you need for a relaxed, stress-free stay.

The Ostrich has a darkly interesting history.  Former visitors include Dick Turpin and King John, rumoured to have stopped there on his way to nearby Runnymede to sign the Magna Carta. There is also a story about a landlord whose wife made a profitable sideline murdering unsuspecting guests, and an equally dark one about how Colnbrook got its name.
