The Duke of Edinburgh in Barming near Maidstone has expanded the availability of its 100% gluten-free menu, in response to overwhelming customer demand. The traditional Shepherd Neame pub introduced food for the first time in March this year, following a £130,000 refurbishment.

Historic seaside pub the Royal Standard in Hastings is offering food for the first time following a £75,000 makeover. The Shepherd Neame pub, which dates back more than 300 years, is located opposite the seafront and the old fishermen’s huts in the picturesque coastal town.

Two of Shepherd Neame’s top chefs battled it out to be crowned winner of the Great British Beef Butty competition on Wednesday, April 28. The event was organised to support Britain’s beef farmers and mark Great British Beef Week, which ran from April 23 to May 2.

The traditional Shepherd Neame pub, which dates back to 1868, didn’t previously serve food, but following its £130,000 refurbishment at the end of last year, licensee Adam Phillips decided it was a good time to expand the offer.

Five Shepherd Neame head chefs have been handpicked to become mentors across the family brewer’s retail estate in London and the South East. They have been chosen in recognition of their experience and outstanding skills, and will now undergo management training to become mentors.
