TENTH ANNIVERSARY FOR SHEPS’ FIRST COUPLE

Posted: 27th October 2017

The first couple to get married at the Shepherd Neame brewery in Faversham have celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary with a return to the brewery.

Richard and Karen Snell, of Teynham, were the first people to take advantage of the wedding licence granted to Shepherd Neame in 2007.

The couple, who are known as Dicky and Tooty, were married in the brewhouse by the old mash tuns and held their reception in the brewery visitor centre.

“We were both beer drinkers and we’re local and we wanted something a little bit quirky,”

explained Richard.

On their return to the brewery the couple, who have five children and nine grandchildren between them were presented with specially labeled commemorative bottles of beer and a bottle of Champagne.

Karen, who signs for the hard of hearing at Sittingbourne Community College, gave Richard a box of ten bottles of wine, each one progressing in quality to symbolize how their marriage has improved over the years.

Richard, head gardener on a private estate, gave Karen an eternity ring, and they celebrated further with a weekend in London and a West End Show.
