Spitfire Flies High at Glittering Awards Ceremony

Posted: 25th February 2014

The redesign of Shepherd Neame’s flagship Spitfire ale scooped a top honour at a national awards ceremony.

Created by Tunbridge Wells-based design agency JDO, the revamp took silver in the branded drink packaging category at the Design Business Association’s annual Design Effectiveness Awards.

The brewery decided to create a limited edition Spitfire bottle as part of a Glorious 2012 campaign to celebrate a summer of great British events including the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics.

The agency introduced a Union flag to the background of the front label to inject national pride, and the call to ‘Keep Calm and Celebrate’ on the neck label with an iconic Spitfire plane.

Following the huge popularity of the limited edition bottle, an adapted version of the design has now been adopted permanently for the Spitfire bottle and cans.
