Pub of the Week: Ye Olde Whyte Lyon, Orpington

Posted: 21st March 2019

Ye Olde Whyte Lyon in Locksbottom, near Orpington, can trace its roots back to the early 17th century and more than three hundred years later remains a popular pub at the heart of village life.

With original oak beams inside, this is a classic Kentish pub with a contemporary feel. A landscaped walled garden is always busy over the summer months while live Sky TV sport ensures a loyal bunch of regulars. There’s even a screen in the garden.

On the food front the menu is varied, with something for everyone.

There are a number of small plate options such as smoked haddock and cheddar croquettes and chicken wings and nachos, alongside a range of burgers, including the vegetarian spicy vegetable and red lentil burger.

Also available are a number of turmeric tortilla wraps and club sandwiches.

More substantial offerings include sausage and mash, cod and chips, a chicken tagine, ham and eggs and a beef steak and ale pie. A red lentil and chickpea dhal is a tasty vegan and vegetarian option.

Pouring at the bar are a range of traditional and contemporary cask ales and premium lagers from Britain’s oldest brewer.
