Pub of the Week: The Swan & Dog, Great Chart

Posted: 8th January 2019

Located in a conservation area in the charming and historic village of Great Chart, although still convenient for busy Ashford nearby, the Swan and Dog is the ideal venue to shake off those new year blues.

Originally known as the Swan Inn, this delightful timber-framed pub can trace its roots back to the 16th century and is Grade II listed.

It prides itself on offering a great range of food and drink, sourced locally whenever possible.

A lunch menu is available from 12 noon until 5pm, Monday through to Saturday. It ranges from dishes such as ham, egg and chips and a chicken fajita wrap through to a range of sandwiches.

A more extensive main menu features starters such as grilled halloumi and breaded whitebait, while main dishes include slow roasted belly of pork, steak, port and stilton pie, buttermilk chicken breast and fish and chips.

A range of burgers are also available, including a vegan burger, and also a number of dishes from the grill. There is also an artisan pizza range, freshly prepared to order.

There are separate menus for vegetarians, featuring beetroot and goats cheese tortellini and a Portobello mushroom fajitas, and for children.

On the drinks front, pouring at the bar are Whitstable Bay Blonde Lager, Curious Brew Lager, Amstel Lager and Sam Miguel Lager. Also available are Spitfire Kentish Ale, Bishops Finger, Whitstable Bay Pale Ale and Harvey’s Best Bitter, alongside Guinness and Orchard View Cider.
