Pub Feature: The Railway Hotel & Carriage Restaurant, Faversham

The Railway Hotel has been offering a warm welcome to townsfolk and tourists for over 150 years. Situated at the top of Faversham High Street just across from the train station, it’s the ideal base from which to explore the area, and a superb spot to sample excellent food and drink. Just a short walk from the brewery itself, the Railway is a great place to sample a pint of cask ale in the traditional Victorian bar, where you can enjoy the full Kentish pub experience. Fabulous food, meanwhile, is served in The Carriage restaurant adjoining the pub - one of the best restaurants in Faversham for dishes inspired by local produce.

Recently named as a finalist in the Taste of Kent ‘Kent Restaurant of the Year’ Awards, the restaurant, managed by head chef Nicky Martin and his partner Tania Bourne, focuses on traditional dishes with a contemporary twist, using local produce from suppliers such as Macknade Fine Foods and The Butcher of Brogdale in Faversham, and Stour Valley Game in Chilham. Expect dishes such as Grilled Goats Cheese with Apple, Fig and Bishops Finger Chutney to start, followed by Roast Rump of Kentish Lamb in a Herb and Nut Crust with Creamy Mash, seasonal vegetables, and gravy. As well as the a la carte, there is a set menu which offers incredible value for money at just £14.95 for three courses, and on Sundays you can enjoy an indulgent traditional roast from just £9.95.

The hotel offers seven comfortable and well-equipped en-suite rooms. There is live music on the last Wednesday of every month - for more information or to make a booking, visit the pub's website or call 07522 494203
