Posted: 14th July 2016

Shepherd Neame’s chief executive Jonathan Neame has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Kent.

Jonathan Neame, who was appointed chief executive of the Faversham-based brewery in 2003, and is also a Deputy Lieutenant of Kent and chairman of Visit Kent, was presented with the degree of Doctor of the University in recognition for his services to business and Kent.

The ceremony took place at Canterbury Cathedral on Monday, July 11.

His father Robert Neame, President of Shepherd Neame, was also honoured by the university in 2008, receiving an honorary doctorate in Civil Law.

Jonathan Neame said:

It is a privilege to be recognised for my work in this way by the University of Kent. I am particularly proud to be the second member of my family to receive this great honour. Shepherd Neame has been based in Kent for more than 400 years, and we have always believed in a strong commitment to Faversham and the county, and always in the value of thinking for the long term that a family business can give. The mantra for a successful working life is in my view very clear: take every opportunity with both hands, don't be afraid to fail, keep learning, and keep adapting to change.
