INDEPENDENT FAMILY BREWER SHEPHERD NEAME COOLS THINGS DOWN FOR SUMMER WITH NEW COAST DRIFTER COLD IPA

Posted: 31st July 2025

Independent family brewer Shepherd Neame is keeping things cool this summer with its latest limited edition cask ale, Coast Drifter Cold IPA.

Coast Drifter (3.8%) is the first Cold IPA - a pale ale that has been fermented at a colder temperature than usual – created by the Faversham-based brewery.

It boasts a delicate malt base and fruity hop forward aroma and flavour, thanks to its Saaz, Centennial and Amarillo hops. The colder brewing process better captures the hops’ citrus, orange notes with hints of floral and spice, delivering a refreshing, easy drinking IPA which is perfect to enjoy in a pub garden this summer.

Brewing Manager Rupert Hodgkins said: “We brewed Coast Drifter with our house ale yeast, but at a lower temperature than normal. The yeast performed beautifully, and the cooler fermentation helps the flavour of the beer to be more hop-forward, as there are fewer fruity notes from the yeast competing with the citrussy hops.”

He added: “I think Coast Drifter is a great blend of traditional and modern brewing techniques, and, more importantly, the beer is light, refreshing and easy-drinking.”

Coast Drifter Cold IPA is the latest offering from Shepherd Neame’s Cask Club, a range of limited edition, innovative cask beers incorporating modern styles and flavours, while also celebrating some seasonal classics.

It will be available in Shepherd Neame pubs across Kent, London and the South East for a limited time.

This is the last new Cask Club beer for 2025, before the return of popular Cask Club Autumn and Winter favourites Late Red (4.5%), Hop Pocket (4.5%) and Christmas Ale (5%).
