Our pubs and hotels will be joining in the festivities throughout the Bank Holiday weekend to mark the King’s Coronation.
If you’re wondering which one to head along to, we have picked out five of the best, with a range of activities sure to appeal to all tastes:
George Hotel, Cranbrook
What better location to watch the Coronation ceremony than this historic hotel, which played host to King Edward I in 1299, and Queen Elizabeth I in 1573?
The George Hotel will also be marking the occasion with a special Royal Afternoon Tea throughout the weekend, with advance booking essential. It will also be taking part in the town’s street party on Sunday. The event is running from 11am to 4pm in the High Street, and the team at The George Hotel will be providing an outside bottle bar and offering takeaway food at the hotel for guests to enjoy outside at the party.
Horse and Groom, Wilmington
A unique sight will greet visitors to the Horse and Groom this weekend – the royal emblem mown into the front garden, with a large red, white and blue crown spray-painted around it.
The pub will be showing the Coronation ceremony from 11am on Saturday, and festivities will continue into the evening with live music from 7pm, followed by a DJ until late.
Guests can enjoy a range of Coronation cocktails, along with a range of themed specials on the menu, throughout the weekend.
The Royal, Tankerton
Fun for all the family – and their four legged friends – is on offer at The Royal this weekend. The pub is raising money for our Charity of the Year Kent Wildlife Trust by offering mini Royal tattoos – no needles involved! - and will also be selling bingo tickets to win lunch for two at the pub, with money raised going to the winner’s chosen charity. The pub is showing the Coronation ceremony from 11am, and will be running a Best Dressed Dog competition throughout the day, with a special regal prize for the winning pooch! Guests can pose for photos with a lifesize cut-out of our new King, and a special Royal Cream Tea will be available throughout the weekend, along with a delicious Coronation Club Sandwich. Celebrations continue with live music from 3pm on Bank Holiday Monday.
Vine Inn, Tenterden
It is worth heading along to The Vine this weekend just to see the spectacular red, white and blue themed floral arch decorating its front entrance. The pub will be showing the Coronation ceremony from 11am on Saturday, followed by live music from 9pm. They will also be serving a range of delicious themed specials, along with Coronation cocktails and Coronation Ale.
Ye Olde Beverlie, Canterbury
Those in search of a more refined Coronation experience are in for a treat with a special Afternoon Tea on offer at this city centre pub.
In addition to screening the Coronation ceremony from 11am, the team will be serving the special Afternoon Tea from 12 noon to 4pm, with a delicious selection of homemade sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream and cakes. There will be a range of teas to choose from, or why not indulge with a glass of fizz?! Advance booking is essential as places are limited.
During your visit, look out for the unique decorations around the pub – crochet crowns, bunting and royal dolls created by the team!
