SHEPHERD NEAME PUB THE CROWN AT CHISLEHURST REOPENS FOLLOWING A SPECTACTULAR £1.4M TRANSFORMATION

Posted: 3rd April 2023

The Crown at Chislehurst has reopened following a £1.4 million transformation by independent family brewer and pub company Shepherd Neame.

Set on the edge of Chislehurst Common in the leafy London Borough of Bromley, the pub, which dates back to 1874, has undergone a major 12-week renovation, with care taken to retain its unique character while introducing a contemporary look and feel.

An impressive new bespoke bar topped with aged brass forms the centrepiece and brings the ‘wow factor’ as guests step into the new-look venue.

Feature leathers, classic modern fabrics and rich timbers have been used throughout the extensively remodelled interior to improve and enhance the space for both drinkers and diners.

A stunning new orangery has been created featuring a new roof lantern, flooding the space with light, complimented by bi-fold doors opening out onto the refurbished courtyard garden, which now includes both open and covered seating.

Guests can relax in style in one of the seven newly refurbished boutique bedrooms, some with private balconies offering stunning views over the Common. Each of the en-suite rooms offers everything needed to ensure a comfortable stay, including a luxury pocket-sprung mattress, Drench shower, Roberts digital radio and Nespresso coffee machine, along with a flat screen Smart TV and complimentary high speed WiFi. The Imperial Crown feature room also boasts a roll top bath. And with London within easy reach, the accommodation is perfect for leisure or business travellers.

To coincide with its new look, a delicious new menu has been created, using the finest seasonal produce to refine and reimagine British pub classics with a modern twist.

Start the day with breakfast at The Crown, choosing from an extensive menu ranging from the traditional Full English to lighter options such as avocado and poached eggs on sourdough, or a Smoked Salmon bap.

And whether you are looking for lunch, dinner, or just a light bite, its main menu is sure to offer something to suit all tastes.

The team pride themselves on using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible, with starters including Rye Bay seared king scallops with chorizo, pea puree, broad beans and fried shallots, and Twice-Baked Canterbury Cobble cheese and thyme soufflé, with tomato ragu, chive butter cream and pea shoots.

Mains include Dingley Dell rolled pork belly with burnt apple puree, Pommes Anna and glazed carrot; and roasted fillet of sea bass with Jerusalem artichoke puree, charred broccoli, a red wine reduction and sauté potatoes.

There are sharing options on the menu - a charcuterie board offering a delicious range of meats and cheeses, and a Moroccan houmous and vegetable platter – along with a tempting range of desserts including Double Stout sticky toffee pudding featuring Shepherd Neame’s own beer, served with warm butterscotch and stout sauce and clotted cream ice cream.

Guests can enjoy with one of the extensive range of drinks on offer, from an award-winning range of craft ales and lagers to a selection of crisp wines and premium spirits and cocktails.

Shepherd Neame’s Managing Director, Pubs, Jonathon Swaine, said: “We are delighted to unveil this stylish transformation of The Crown.

“It is an incredible venue in a unique location, and this project has allowed us to ensure that it can reach its full potential. It represents a significant investment not just in The Crown, but also in the surrounding area, supporting local suppliers and contractors.

“We are very proud of the finished results and can’t wait to welcome our customers back so they can see just how much The Crown has to offer, as a unique destination to drink, dine and stay.”
