Planning Permission Granted for Historic Pub's Revamp

Posted: 15th October 2019

Shepherd Neame has been granted planning permission by Dover District Council to undertake a major transformation of one of Dover’s oldest pubs.

The Lord Nelson, which adjoins the St James retail and leisure development and is just a short walk from the Market Square, High Street and waterfront, dates back to 1805.

Shepherd Neame’s plans for the riverside pub include an open plan bar area and dining space. The new look outdoor areas will include patio seating to the front of the property and a stone paved terrace to the back of the property with a retractable awning and café style furniture.

Cllr Nick Kenton, cabinet member for planning, said:

“We’re delighted to see Shepherd Neame investing in Dover and capitalising on the Lord Nelson’s fantastic town centre location.”

Nigel Bunting, Director of Retail & Tenanted Operations at Shepherd Neame, said:

“We are looking forward to developing the Lord Nelson.  We will be improving all trading areas internally and externally to make the most of this historic pub, which boasts a unique riverside location with views up to Dover Castle and is also in a prime position alongside the new St James development. As part of this process we will be recruiting a new licensee and would invite anyone interested in the role to contact our team.”
