KENT’S NEWEST BOUTIQUE HOTEL TEAMS UP WITH BRITAIN’S OLDEST BREWER

Posted: 16th May 2019

Guests at Kent’s newest boutique hotel The Pig at Bridge Place will be able to enjoy beers from Britain’s oldest brewer, Shepherd Neame.

Formerly Bridge Place Country Club, The Pig at Bridge Place is a 17th century manor house located just outside the village of Bridge near Canterbury.

The sixth Pig in the hotel collection’s portfolio, it officially opened on Tuesday, April 30, and boasts a total of 29 rooms including seven in the beautifully refurbished main house. The former Coach House houses the hotel’s restaurant and open kitchen, along with 12 further bedrooms. Seven Kentish Hop Pickers’ Huts sit alongside the river in the grounds, each made from reclaimed materials and housing a double bedroom with bathroom and wood burning stove. Guests can also stay in The Barn, a rustic two-storey hideaway in the old stables, and a newly restored gate lodge offers two further dwellings.

In keeping with The Pig hotel group’s ethos, The Pig at Bridge Place is committed to using home grown and local produce. Anything that can’t be grown in the hotel’s kitchen garden is sourced from within a 25-mile radius.

Shepherd Neame was among the producers contacted by the team, as they were keen to stock locally brewed beers. Guests can now enjoy Whitstable Bay Blonde Lager and Spitfire Kentish Amber Ale. To ensure that bar staff at the hotel were familiar with the history and flavour profile of the beers on offer, Shepherd Neame provided bar staff with bespoke training including a tutored tasting.

Bar manager Lydia Rigby said:

“The Pig hotel group prides itself on offering only the best, most authentic food and drink, sourced as locally to our sites as possible. Shepherd Neame’s Faversham brewery is just 10 miles away from our new hotel, and as Britain’s oldest brewer, they were our first choice as beer supplier. We are delighted to be able to share Shepherd Neame’s range of beautifully crafted Kentish ales and speciality lagers with our guests.”
