Pub of the Week: The George and Dragon, Thames Ditton

Posted: 10th October 2018

Known by locals as Village HQ, the George and Dragon has played a huge part in day to day life in Thames Ditton for more than 150 years.

The grounds of the pub are the venue for a monthly and popular farmers’ market, while many community events are also held here. There are regular live jazz nights and a popular pub quiz. The George boasts a function room that can hold up to 40 and the restaurant area can also be hired for private use.

With both Sky Sports and BT Sport, the pub is a popular place for catching all the live action. There’s even an outdoor screen if you fancy watching in the picturesque pub garden.

The George and Dragon offers an extensive menu which ranges from lunchtime bar snacks to hearty mains, and these can be eaten in the bar, the separate restaurant or even in one of two heated outdoor dining areas.

Speciality sandwiches and light meals are served every day from 12 noon until 3pm. The evening menu is available Monday to Sunday from 6pm until 9pm. On Sundays roast dinner is available from 12 noon until 7pm.

Small plates include salt and pepper dusted whitebait, tempura vegetables and shredded aromatic duck, while sandwiches and burgers are available alongside traditional main dishes such as cod and chips, sausage and mash and beef steak and ale pie.

The range of beer available at the bar features Spitfire Lager, San Miguel, Five Grain Lager and Whitstable Bay Blonde Lager. Also available is Orchard View Apple Cider. The George has Cask Marque accreditation for its range of real ales, which include Spitfire Amber Ale, Spitfire Gold, Master Brew Kentish Ale and Whitstable Bay Pale Ale.

Pub opening hours are Monday to Saturday 10.30am until 11.30pm, and Sunday 12 noon until 10.30pm.
