Posted: 24th July 2018

Enjoy great food, drinks and live music at an historic pub in the heart of Kent’s County Town.

The Market House in Maidstone has just undergone a major refurbishment, retaining its Victorian character while creating a stylish environment in which to drink and dine. It is perfect for a summer visit due to its stylish roof terrace overlooking Fremlin Walk, a popular destination for al fresco drinking and dining.

You will be spoilt for choice as the Market House offers an extensive range of drinks, with a particular focus on beer and cider in draught and bottle. It is currently serving local Kentish beers Spitfire Amber Kentish Ale, Spitfire Gold, Spitfire Lager, Master Brew, Midnight Sun, Bear Island Pale Ale and Whitstable Bay Blonde Lager. International lagers Birra Morretti and Samuel Adams Boston Lager are also available, along with Camden Hells Lager. Cider enthusiasts can choose between Angry Orchard and Orchard View Apple Cider on draught.

There is also a great selection of premium wine, spirits and cocktails. A full hot drinks menu including Grumpy Mule coffee is available to drink in or take away, as well as a selection of cakes, and cooling iced coffees for hotter days.

Make sure you sample the Market House menu, available from 11am to 8.30pm every day. Every dish is cooked from scratch, with an emphasis on fresh, healthy choices including Spinach Tortilla Wraps and Superfood Salads, along with more traditional favourites such as the Smithfield Burger. Customers can also choose from a selection of popular Small Plates, perfect for a light snack or to share over lunch.

For early risers, breakfast is available every Saturday and Sunday from 9am until lunchtime, offering on-trend dishes such as Avocado Toast, Baked Spicy Beans and Eggs and a guest favourite: British Hash. There are plans to extend this weekend breakfast offer to Friday mornings, so watch this space.

The Market House is also one of Kent’s most popular live music venues. It boasts free performances from 9.30pm every Friday and Saturday, featuring local bands performing an eclectic mix of music from rock and pop to country, folk and funk. Due to popular demand, the pub has just started hosting acoustic live music sessions from 5.30pm most Sundays. Once a month there’s music on a Thursday evening too so be sure to keep up to date with bands from all around Kent and their performances by following the Market House Facebook page.

The pub is also a busy functions venue, with a dedicated first floor function room available that can accommodate at least 50 people. The room has its own bar and separate entrance to the roof terrace. Corporate facilities are available, and bespoke buffets can be provided. All those interested in using this space should contact the pub directly.
