Pub of the Week: The Bell Hotel, Sandwich

Posted: 4th July 2018

Overlooking the River Stour in the beautiful medieval town of Sandwich, The Bell Hotel has been welcoming guests since Tudor times.

Having undergone extensive refurbishment in recent years, the historic riverside retreat is an ideal location from which to explore the Garden of England. Every one of its 37 bedrooms is decorated individually in a timeless, classic style, and several boast extra special touches such as a roll-top bath and four-poster bed.

It is also a very popular function venue, with three spaces available including the spectacular first floor Regency Suite, formerly Sandwich’s Assembly Room. It is a beautiful Georgian ballroom complete with Minstrels’ Gallery, sparkling chandeliers and double height sash windows, and can accommodate up to 100 guests. Alternatively the traditional Old Dining Room can take up to 50 guests, and the elegant Club Room is perfect for parties of up to 16.

A passion for food is evident in the hotel’s delicious menu offering traditional British dishes with a contemporary twist, using the finest Kentish produce. Customers can enjoy their meal in the hotel’s comfortable bar area or the intimate environment of the Old Dining Room. And when the sun is shining, why not dine alfresco on the Bell Hotel’s external dining terrace?

Food is available every day, with breakfast served from 8am to 11am, then the bar and restaurant menu from 11am to 9.30pm.

The Bell Hotel is also a great place to meet for a drink as it boasts an extensive selection of wines, spirits and beers, with many sourced locally. Kentish beers Five Grain Lager, Spitfire Lager and Whitstable Bay Blonde Lager are currently available on draught, along with Kentish cider Orchard View.

If you haven’t visited The Bell Hotel before, this weekend is the perfect opportunity.

The Bell Hotel is among the sponsors of the town’s annual Folk and Ale Festival, taking place from Friday to Sunday (July 6-8), and will be joining in the celebrations throughout the weekend, including providing takeaway drinks for festival goers.
