Pub of the Week: The Abbey Hotel, Battle

Posted: 13th July 2017

The Abbey Hotel is a beautiful Grade II listed, 8 bedroom hotel with bar and restaurant situated in the charming small market town of Battle, East Sussex.

Positioned opposite the impressive Battle Abbey, the hotel enjoys view of this historic site from the bar and many of the bedrooms. The hotel itself is both homely and luxurious, with a spacious restaurant, attractive bar area, and eight beautifully designed and furnished en-suite rooms.

The rooms are all decorated in soothing contemporary colours, with soft duvets & pillows, white cotton bedding, and fluffy white towels and dressing gowns, making the Abbey Hotel the perfect place to relax and rewind, whatever the reason for your stay.

Outside there is both a patio area and English country garden to choose from, ideal for relaxing in the summer with a pint of cask ale, or a glass of your favourite wine form their excellent and ever-changing selection.

The new manager has recently invested much time and effort on improving the garden, clearing foliage and revealing a long forgotten path that leads to the historic Battle 1066 walk. Reinvigorated, the garden is now an oasis for visitors to enjoy, incorporating a herb garden, and flower beds full of lavender and roses.  Their efforts were recognised at the recent Shepherd Neame Pub Awards, where the hotel won the award for ‘Best Floral Display’.

Menus at The Abbey are unique, designed by head chef Brendon to utilise the very best local produce to create original meals with world flavours. Whatever you choose from the extensive selection of traditional and contemporary British dishes, you won’t be disappointed. Leave room for a cheeseboard!
