Pub of the Week: The Minnis Bay, Birchington

Posted: 16th June 2017

Overlooking one of the finest beaches on the North Kent Coast, The Minnis Bay Bar & Brasserie is a relaxed, stylish location that offers truly outstanding views, and great food and drink.

The pub has recently undergone an extensive, £1million refurbishment, transforming the pub both inside and out. The inside has been remodelled, and now boasts a bar, coffee lounge and 100-seat restaurant. Outside, the terrace offers the opportunity to drink and dine while enjoying the stunning views out to sea. There is also a kiosk, serving snacks, ice creams and beach essentials.

The Blue Flag beach offers extensive golden sands, perfect for spending a day beside the seaside. You can also walk or cycle over to the nearby Reculver Towers, or explore the bays towards Margate. Early birds can enjoy breakfast by the sea, served from 8-11am.

On the bar you’ll find a choice of quality cask ales, lagers and ciders, and wines from around the world.

Food here is classic British cuisine with a contemporary twist, with a varied menu offering everything from light bites to pub classics and chef specials, plus a range of burgers made from 100% British steak, and hand stretched pizzas baked in the pub’s own pizza oven. And, as you would expect from the location, seafood is a speciality.

In addition to the stunning beach, The Minnis is not far from Westgate & Birchington Golf Club and Quex Park, for those looking for a relaxing seafront meal after a day out, and is also within a short drive of Canterbury, Whitstable, Broadstairs, and Margate. Those looking to re-kindle childhood memories can visit the newly re-opened Dreamland, just five miles down the road.

The Minnis also has a function room for hire on the first floor with its own private bar, and views across the bay. This lovely space can seat up to 60 diners, and is suitable for a wide variety of occasions form business breakfasts to birthday parties, with catering arranged to suit.
