Pub of the Week: The Anchor, Rowhedge

Posted: 17th March 2017

The Anchor is a traditional English pub set on the banks of the River Colne in the village of Rowhedge, near Colchester.

Inside, there is both a public bar and separate conservatory restaurant, from which you can enjoy stunning views across the water all year round.  The pub has recently been completely redecorated and repainted throughout, giving it a fresh, modern look and adding comfy sofas to relax into with a glass of wine in the evening. For warmer days, the riverside terrace is perfect for dining al-fresco.

On the regularly changing menu, you’ll find everything from snacks to traditional pub meals, as well as Mediterranean and Asian dishes. All dishes are made with fresh, local produce, and fresh fish a speciality, with regular deliveries direct from the Mersey fishing boats.

Don’t forget to leave room for dessert! With a range of old favourites and new discoveries, plus their popular homemade cheesecakes, you’ll be glad you did.

On the bar you’ll find a choice of cask ales and lagers, and an extensive choice of wines, as well as soft drinks, teas and coffees.

If you are looking for a function or party venue, The Anchor is happy to host and cater all kinds of events, from business breakfasts and birthday parties, to riverside weddings.

The pub hosts regular quiz nights and other events throughout the year, including fundraising nights for charity.

There are numerous woodland and riverside walks around the village, with two established RSPB reserves at Fingringhoe & Abberton. Rowhedge is easily accessible by road as well as by river, with private moorings at The Anchor for patrons and public moorings nearby.
