Pub of the Week: The Royal Albion, Broadstairs

Posted: 12th October 2016

The Royal Albion Hotel, Broadstairs, was built in 1760, and occupies an unrivalled position on the seafront, just a few steps from sandy Viking Bay.

Inside the 21-room hotel, there is a coffee lounge, bar and restaurant, with views across the harbour. Outside there is a multi-levelled terrace garden that overlooks the beach and sea, creating the perfect setting for dining in the fresh air.

Earlier this year the hotel benefitted from a significant refurbishment project, including the addition of a conservatory on the former raised decking area, creating a bright, airy dining space with spectacular sea views.

The Royal Albion was a favourite haunt of author Charles Dickens, who stayed and wrote there before purchasing nearby Bleak House. The hotel remains a focal point of the town’s annual Dickens celebrations, and is one of the main music venues for the annual Broadstairs Folk Week.

The hotel offers a selection of food options, from snacks and sandwiches to contemporary a la carte dining. Relax in the elegant atmosphere of Ballard’s coffee lounge, looking out over Broadstairs town, tuck in to a Sunday roast or pub classic in Ballard’s Bar, or treat yourself to a relaxed three course dinner in the restaurant.

Wherever you choose, you can be sure of a meal prepared with high quality fresh produce, locally sourced wherever possible.

All rooms at The Royal Albion are of a very high standard, with luxury bathroom suites, and soft furnishings. Thirteen enjoy sea views, some with balconies, and all are fully equipped with everything you need to make your stay a pleasant one.

Broadstairs is ideal for a seaside break, with its famous horseshoe-shaped Viking Bay, and the many other beautiful beaches in the surrounding area. Explore the traditional High Street, take a cliff-top walk, or grab an ice cream and play mini-golf - it really is the perfect place to escape and forget it all.
