Family Affair for New Licensee at Community Pub

Posted: 24th March 2016

The new licensee of The Dewdrop in Twydall, near Rainham, is a familiar face to regulars at the Shepherd Neame pub.

Janet Harris has taken it over from her Mum and stepdad Valerie and Richard Elvy, who recently retired after 10 years behind the bar.

Mum-of-four Janet said:

I have been working at the pub part-time since they took it on, as I could fit it around childcare arrangements. I really enjoyed it as we have some amazing regulars and the pub has a fantastic atmosphere. When they decided to retire, I thought it was an opportunity to give it a go and take it on myself.

Based in the heart of Twydall, The Dewdrop has two bars and a large garden, and is home to several darts and pool teams.

As a first-time licensee, Janet has been given lots of support from Shepherd Neame including courses in areas such as cellar management and finance, since taking on the pub.

She said:

Although I knew the pub well, and I could call on my Mum and stepdad for advice, it was still quite daunting, but I have got lots of support from the brewery and am really settling in and enjoying it.

The pub is open from 4pm to 11pm, Monday to Thursday; 2pm to midnight on Friday; 12noon to midnight on Saturday and from 12noon to 11pm on Sunday.
