Pub of the Week: The Three Horseshoes, Hernhill

Posted: 11th May 2016

The Three Horseshoes is a traditional pub in the village of Hernhill, near Faversham. Its rural surroundings make it a popular destination for walkers, cyclists and local villagers alike.

The building itself is more than 250 years old, with documents relating to its use as a pub dating back to 1690. The pub has an attractive frontage, with a weatherboard exterior and traditional Kent peg roof. Inside, period features such as big old oak beams and a large open fireplace contribute to its characterful, welcoming atmosphere.

Outside there is a small garden, a real suntrap on summer days, with tables under the shelter of the ancient walnut tree.

The pub offers excellent pub food, and is well known for its excellent Sunday Roast. There are also themed meal nights, with a very popular Fish and Chips supper on Tuesdays for just £5, burger nights, steak specials (including a once monthly night where you can cook them at the table on hot lava stones!), Moroccan, Indian evenings and more. Coming up in July, landlord Clive is planning a paella and sangria day in the garden, where he will show you how to make paella in his giant pan, and you can enjoy a glass of sangria while it cooks!

On the bar, you will find a choice of quality cask ales, international lagers, and a good choice of wines and spirits.

In July, the pub plays host to a bonkers but brilliant wheelie-bin race, organised by the pub every summer for a chosen charity. This year it is planned for 16th July – come along and cheer on your favourite team!

They also host live music twice monthly, usually on a Friday or Saturday evening, with a mixture of everything from jazz to rock.

The pub is very close to the beautiful Mount Ephraim Country House and Gardens, a delightful day out in itself, and which will this year play host to ‘A New Day’ Festival in August.
