Celebrate Britain's National Beer Day With Shepherd Neame

Posted: 27th May 2016

Britain’s oldest brewer Shepherd Neame is encouraging its customers to join in a nationwide celebration for next month’s Beer Day Britain.

It is the second year of the event, organised to salute Britain’s favourite alcoholic drink, and the idea is simple – gather together in a pub and join in a National Cheers to Beer toast at 7pm on Wednesday, June 15.

Shepherd Neame’s 338 pubs will be joining in the celebrations, with licensees ringing their Last Orders bells at 7pm and encouraging customers to raise a glass to Beer Day Britain.

Organisers are hoping to start a trend on Twitter again, known as a Thunderclap, with the hashtag #CheersToBeer and photos of people raising their beer glass.

Beer Day Britain is held on June 15 as it was the date in 1215 that the Magna Carta was sealed, which defined the traditional pint of ale: “There shall be but one Measure throughout the Realm”.

Shepherd Neame chief executive Jonathan Neame said:

We are delighted to support Beer Day Britain. We feel it is important to make people proud of British beer and pubs, and the huge contribution they make to society and the economy, and also help raise the profile of beer as Britain’s national drink.
