Celebrating Britain's National Beer Day

Posted: 15th June 2016

Customers at Shepherd Neame pubs across the South East were among hundreds of beer lovers to celebrate Beer Day Britain on Wednesday, June 15.

It was the second year of the event, organised to salute Britain’s favourite alcoholic drink, and the idea was simple – gather together in a pub and join in a National Cheers to Beer toast at 7pm.

Shepherd Neame has more than 330 pubs across its estate, and encouraged licensees and managers to join in the celebrations by ringing their Last Orders bells at 7pm and encouraging customers to raise a glass to Beer Day Britain.

Organisers started a trend on Twitter with the hashtag #CheersToBeer and photos of people raising their beer glass.

Beer Day Britain is held on June 15 as it was the date in 1215 that the Magna Carta was sealed, which defined the traditional pint of ale: “There shall be but one Measure throughout the Realm”.

Shepherd Neame chief executive Jonathan Neame said:

We were delighted to once again join in the celebrations for Beer Day Britain. We feel it is important to make people proud of British beer and pubs, and the huge contribution they make to society and the economy, and also help raise the profile of beer as Britain’s national drink.
