Posted: 20th June 2016

A £75,000 makeover has been completed at The Cricketers in Canterbury city centre.

The five week project at the Grade II Listed Shepherd Neame pub included redecorating throughout, sanding and polishing the wooden floors, reupholstering the furniture and renovating the toilets.

New wine storage and overhead glass hanging racks have been added to give the bar a more contemporary look, and outside, the exterior of the pub has been painted and the courtyard garden has received a revamp, with new plants and furniture.

Licensee Anita Turner, who has run The Cricketers for three years, said:

The pub looks fantastic, and we have had lots of positive feedback from our customers. Our aim was to keep the traditional feel of the pub, but give it a more stylish, fresh look.

The kitchen has also enjoyed a major refurbishment, as the pub is renowned for its delicious traditional bar snacks and pub classics, with specials including doorstep sandwiches using bread from the local Wilmshurst Village Bakery and homemade burgers served in a Kentish Huffkin bun.

Mum-of-two Anita added:

The Cricketers is a characterful, traditional pub in a fantastic city centre location, and with this new look, we are confident that it will continue to go from strength to strength.

The Cricketers is open from 12noon to midnight, Monday to Sunday. Food is available from 12noon to 4pm, Monday to Sunday.
