Pub of the Week: The George Hotel, Cranbrook

Posted: 21st June 2016

The George Hotel is an elegant, historic hotel, perfectly positioned in the beautiful small Kentish town of Cranbrook, a spot well suited to discovering the outstanding beauty of the ‘Garden of England’.

The hotel has recently enjoyed a makeover of its ‘Cranbrook Bar’ – which now has some sumptuous new leather seating, a feature table, and a stock of premium spirits including gins, whiskies and vodkas. There is also an extended wine list, and a cocktail list to linger over.

Built in the 1300s, The George is one of Cranbrook’s most historic buildings, and has a rich history, having played host to King Edward I in 1299, and Queen Elizabeth I in 1573.

Today, the hotel can still offer accommodation fit for a royal, with its 12 stunning rooms, all combining period features with fresh, modern décor.

Treat yourself to a stay in one of the feature rooms – perhaps The Crimson room, the room used by Queen Elizabeth I, with its magnificent wooden four poster bed, or the Heather Room, with its decorative fireplace and spa bath, to add a little luxury to your break.

Dining at The George will prove to be just as much of a treat, with menus that offer a range of delicious dishes to suit all tastes and appetites, prepared with the freshest seasonal produce.

Enjoy an indulgent lunch or dinner in the restaurant, where you will be spoilt for choice with inspired, chef-prepared dishes.  Or choose from the bar menu, served all day every day, and offering a choice of sandwiches, classic British dishes, and tempting ‘Chef’s Favourites’.

Combine your visit with a trip to the nearby Sissinghurst Castle, and its world-renowned gardens, designed by author Vita Sackville-West, or visit the historic town of Tenterden, with its picturesque high street and steam railway.

Whether you visit for a weekend getaway, Sunday lunch with the family, or just a sandwich and a pint while exploring the local area, you will not be disappointed by The George Hotel.
