Pub of the Week: The Green Man, Herongate

The Green Man is housed in a 17th Century listed building in Herongate, a village not far from Brentwood, Essex. Originally a greengrocers, it became a pub in 1840, serving estate workers from the nearby Thorndon Hall.

Inside, the pub has retained many of its original features, including oak beamed ceilings and original fireplaces, giving it a cosy, traditional feel.

The pub is popular for its attractive beer garden, complete with large pond and waterfall feature, ideal for relaxing and enjoying lunch with the family.  There is also a fantastic new outside bar and barbeque area, for events throughout the summer months.The Green Man offers a selection of bar snacks and classic pub meals, and a popular Sunday roast. On the bar you will find a good choice of cask beers, including seasonal Shepherd Neame ales, plus a range of international lagers and wines from around the world.

There is regular live music, covering a good range of genres, from soul singers to acoustic duos and rock bands. Tuesday night is quiz night from 8pm, with prizes and a cash jackpot to be won.

The Green Man Beer & Sausage Festival is coming up on 2nd to 4th September, with cask ales, live music, morris dancers and bbq – the perfect weekend to head to this lively, traditional Essex pub.

The pub is also available for hire for functions and private events, with something to suit whether you’re looking for a private family lunch, corporate barbeque, somewhere for a group meeting or even a wedding reception.
