SHEPHERD NEAME BEGINS ROLL OUT OF ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING STATIONS ACROSS PUB ESTATE

Posted: 16th November 2021

Kent-based brewer and pub operator Shepherd Neame has just completed the first of a new series of electric car charging stations across its estate.

The first station has been installed at The Wharf, Dartford. The pub now has two rapid charging points, suitable for all-electric vehicles, in its car park. The pay-as-you-go stations can be accessed every day, at any time, with a simple tap of a contactless bank card. Drivers don’t need an account or an app and there are no connection fees, it is simple pay-as-you-go.

The Wharf’s General Manager Marc Watson said: “We have seen a great response since the charging station opened, with lots of new customers visiting our pub while they are charging their car. A rapid charge typically takes around 30 minutes, depending on the car, so it is the perfect opportunity to pop in for refreshments while you are waiting.”

The stations are being installed by London-based firm Osprey Charging, which is growing its UK-wide rapid charging network for electric vehicles, powered by 100% renewable energy.

Shepherd Neame is now planning to rollout charging points across more of its 310 pubs and hotels across the South East, with work planned next at the Singleton Barn in Ashford, and The Ship and Trades at Chatham Maritime.

Shepherd Neame’s Commercial Estate Manager John Barnes said: “Shepherd Neame is committed to an environmentally responsible approach in all areas of the business. When Osprey approached us about teaming up for this project, we were delighted to get involved, not only to help promote cleaner transport but to offer an additional service for our customers. All three of the sites chosen for the initial rollout have big car parks perfect for the installation of the charging points, and are conveniently located for drivers at key points across the country near major road systems. We are really excited about this new chapter for our pubs.”

Ian Johnston, CEO of Osprey Charging, said: “We are delighted Shepherd Neame has joined Osprey’s nationwide network of rapid charge points, to ensure drivers are supported with convenient, reliable, on-the-go charging. Our high-powered, multi-charger hubs herald a new era of public electric vehicle (EV) charging – enabling mass EV adoption and a clean transport revolution.

“For example, The Wharf charging station has been designed and built to ensure easy accessibility for all drivers: with no curbs, long cables and plenty of space around the parking bays for wheelchair users.”
