REFRESHED HISTORIC CITY WINE BAR REINTRODUCES FOOD FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE PANDEMIC

Coffees, accompanied by a delicious new menu of sharing platters, have returned to the birthplace of London’s coffee scene – the Jamaica Wine House.

The Shepherd Neame pub, which was the site of London’s first ever coffee house frequented by Samuel Pepys in the 1600s, has introduced a selection of charcuterie boards for customers to graze on while enjoying lunchtime or after work drinks.

It is the first time food and coffee has been offered at Todd’s Wine Bar in the stylish City site’s basement since the pandemic hit.

The charcuterie boards are the perfect accompaniment for a crisp glass of Todd’s wine, or a pint of one of Shepherd Neame’s fine ales and lagers - or you can order a hot beverage with them.

The menu ranges from nibbles such as mixed smoked almonds and cashew nuts or peppers stuffed with cream cheese, to meats such as Moccus salami or Cerrunos ham.

For cheese lovers, there is Black Bomber cheddar with pickles, spiced apple chutney and raisin toasts, or, for those wanting a filling snack, there is a sharing board featuring a selection of goodies - Dingley Dell Finnochiona salami, Elidure chorizo, Prosciutto slow aged leg and Black Bomber cheddar, grapes, spiced apple chutney and sliced baguette.

Hot beverages now available include espressos or double espressos, lattes, cappuccinos or Americanos.

The re-introduction of food and hot drinks also coincides with a refreshed look for Todd’s Wine Bar, along with refurbishment in a number of other areas for the historic hostelry, which is hidden away near Monument in central London’s Square Mile, and affectionately known as The Jampot.

The bar has been redesigned creating more serving space, while behind the scenes the cellar has been extended and renovated to allow for the introduction of a new state-of-the-art cooling system, to ensure every beer is ice cold when it reaches you!

Outside, the iconic Jamaica Wine House lantern has also been refurbished to ensure it continues to shine a light on late night drinkers for years to come.

General Manager Steve Berry said: “We felt now was the perfect time to begin serving food again since the pandemic. 

“There is a buzz about the City again, and after just a few weeks of reintroducing coffees and our new charcuterie menu, we have sold an unbelievable number. It’s a great starting point and we will be looking into the possibility of expanding our offer further during the coming months.

“We are really pleased with the new look of the Wine Bar, and the cellar improvements mean that we can ensure our beers are always in top notch condition for our customers.”
