Historic Carshalton pub unveils newly refurbished function space

The Windsor Castle in Carshalton is celebrating the transformation of its function space, The Cottage, following a £50,000 investment by independent family brewer and pub company Shepherd Neame - with the new-look venue now licensed to host wedding ceremonies.

Dating back to 1860, the Windsor Castle has long been a favourite with the local community. The traditional pub was refurbished and reopened by Shepherd Neame in 2023, and the latest investment has transformed its dedicated function venue, creating an inviting setting for weddings, celebrations and events.

Seating up to 48 guests, The Cottage now boasts a new engineered oak floor, contemporary furniture, upgraded lighting, air conditioning and refreshed décor. Audio and projector equipment have been upgraded, while guests can benefit from a fully accessible toilet and baby-changing facilities.

The wedding license offers couples the opportunity to celebrate their special day in the intimate setting, with The Cottage providing a dedicated space for ceremonies and celebrations. The venue can also accommodate a wide range of other occasions, from birthdays and anniversaries to family gatherings, business meetings and community events.

The improvements extend outside, with the building redecorated and new signage and upgraded lighting helping to create a more welcoming entrance.

Essential structural roof timber treatment was carried out as part of the project, ensuring The Cottage is well maintained for the future.

The Cottage has its own bar, which has also been refurbished, providing guests with a dedicated space while still benefiting from the wider hospitality offer at the Windsor Castle.

The pub's food menu includes light bites and classic pub dishes, while its drinks selection features Shepherd Neame's award-winning ales and lagers alongside premium wines and spirits. Customers can also enjoy the Windsor Castle's courtyard and large garden, providing an additional setting for food and drinks during the warmer months.

The pub hosts a programme of regular entertainment, including live music and quiz nights throughout the year.

Director of Retail Operations Shane Godwin said: “We’re delighted to unveil the newly refurbished Cottage at the Windsor Castle. The investment has created a welcoming and highly flexible space that we’re confident will be a great addition to the pub’s offer.

“We are particularly pleased to have been granted a wedding license for the site, giving couples the opportunity to celebrate their special day with us.”
