Educational Visits

Between Between April and July major engineering work will be going on in the brewhouse as two new mash tuns are constructed, installed and commissioned.
During this time, it will not be possible for us to take members of the public into the brewhouse, so we have created a special brewery visit package that will be available throughout the duration of the engineering project.

Educational groups visiting during the above period will be booked onto a Brewery Discovery Visit as detailed here - other aspects of the visit are as shown below.

Tours provide an opportunity for students to go behind the scenes and see how traditional skills are combined with modern equipment and technology to produce Shepherd Neame’s renowned beers.

Meet your Guide at Visitor Centre, set in a beautifully restored medieval hall house, for a tour that will take you behind the scenes at Britain’s Oldest Brewer. Tours are available during the day on Mondays to Friday – advance booking is essential.

Educational visits are suitable for students aged over 14 and can provide valuable information for those studying biology (particularly micro-biology or fermentation), business studies, tourism, marketing, history and geography.

As part of the Brewery’s commitment towards responsible retailing and education, we include a short presentation on sensible drinking following the tour. It is also usually possible to arrange a question and answer session to enable students to find out more about those subject areas most relevant to their course. In addition, information packs are available after the tour to teachers, summarising the main points of the visit and providing additional material for follow-up work.

Those students aged 18 and over can taste some of the ales and lagers (please note our staff will ask for ID), while soft drinks will be provided for those aged 14 – 17.

Tours commence from the Visitor Centre - 10 Court Street - and are available during the day on Mondays to Friday - advance booking is essential.

The Visitor Centre bar has the appearance and atmosphere of a characteristic English inn allowing students to experience the customs and traditions associated with "visiting the pub".
