The Deal Hoy is named after a common trading vessel of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, this is fitting as the pub has a distinctly nautical feel. The current Landlord is from the north end of Deal, the son of a boatman he spent many years at sea before settling down. He is a keen diver, fisherman, beachcomber and has an interest in local history. All of these things are represented within the pub including a nine foot whale jawbone, well used shrimp nets, bits of ancient ships rigging and a 12 stone cannon ball.
The current tenants, Ian and Sharon wanted to run the kind of pub that they would enjoy drinking in and they have achieved this. The customers come from a huge variety of backgrounds but all are friendly, Social Dealights, a local friendship group meets there regularly as do a local history group. Local artists also display their work on the walls of the pub on a monthly basis.
