The Mermaid Inn is a homely and friendly establishment and a popular stop-off when exploring the beautiful countryside south of Canterbury.

Run by Jackie and Steve Archer, The Mermaid has been recognised for excellence as a traditional British countryside pub having been in the Good Beer Guide for 20 years. It has also been awarded five stars in Scores On The Doors and in 2006 won the small garden and hanging baskets award.

The pub was built in 1861 as a tap house for estate workers. It was originally known as the Lion’s Head until it was bought, along with the Bourne Park estate, by industrialist Sir John Prestige in the 1920s. The name was changed to The Mermaid Inn because a mermaid features on Sir John’s coat of arms. The pub was extended in 1968.

Visitors can play darts and traditional pub games and enjoy tasty and unpretentious pub food including ploughman’s, baguettes and jacket potatoes. There is live music once a month of various styles.
