Seaside Pub Wins National Beer Garden Award

Posted: 11th October 2016

The Belle Vue Tavern in Pegwell Bay near Ramsgate has been honoured in SME Insurance’s Best Beer Garden competition.

The Shepherd Neame pub, which boasts stunning views of Pegwell Bay from its large terraced garden, won second place.

The final decision was based on the number of votes from members of the public and the decision of an independent judging panel comprising experts from the Morning Advertiser, the British Beer and Pub Association, and Two Thirsty Gardeners blog.

Jonathan Webber, SMEi commercial director said:

Competition was fierce, with all ten finalists deserving high praise for making it such a close-run battle. The quality of entries was very high and underlines how much time and effort publicans put into creating a memorable beer garden. The standard has been set for next year!

The Belle Vue’s licensee Tony Pearson has been presented with a £250 gift voucher and a plaque. He said:

We are delighted to have been honoured in this national competition. Our garden boasts spectacular views of Pegwell Bay and can seat 300 people. We have a barbecue shack and bar which customers can sit at overlooking the sea, and a new decking area which is used by bands for our regular live music evenings. My wife Shirley and our chef Donna Allen deserve particular praise as they work really hard to make sure the planters around the garden are always looking beautiful and colourful. We would like to thank all our customers for their support, and helping us be crowned one of Britain’s best beer gardens!
