FESTIVE OLD AND NEW SALE RAISES £1,000 FOR CHARITY
Shepherd Neame’s first Festive Old and New Sale raised more than £1,000 for charity.
More than 200 people attended the event, which took place at the Old Brewery Store in Faversham on Sunday (November 25).
There were 27 stalls selling a mixture of second-hand items and new handcrafted goods including silk scarves, wooden pots, home furnishings, toys, fashion accessories, art prints and linocuts.
Musical accompaniment was provided by singers from the Faversham Choral Society and St Mary of Charity church choir, who volunteered to perform a selection of festive favourites.
Refreshments were also on offer, as the Old Brewery Store bar was open with tea, coffee and mulled wine available along with homemade cakes baked by Shepherd Neame staff.
A competition to guess the weight of a Christmas cake donated by Louise Howling of The Sugar Coated Bakery in Faversham proved popular, along with the raffle, which raised more than £400. A fantastic selection of prizes were donated by local individuals and businesses including wine and dinner for two at the Michelin-starred Sportsman in Seasalter, two High Speed day passes from Southeastern, afternoon tea for two at the Turner Contemporary, and a tour of Anno Kent gin distillery in Marden for two people. Other contributors included the Compasses in Crundale, Cote Brasserie, RJ Kingsland & Son, Tesco, Oddboo, Romney Marsh Wools, Box Room Press, Costa, The Oak & Rope Company and Macknade Fine Foods.
Proceeds will go to the brewery’s Charity of the Year, the Silas Pullen Fund, set up in the memory of Faversham schoolboy Silas Pullen, who lost his brave battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer in 2013. All money raised by the fund goes to The Brain Tumour Charity,
Silas’ Mum Sarah Pullen said: “It was wonderful to see so many people in the local community come together in such a festive way to support and raise money for the Silas Pullen Fund and we want to thank the team at Shepherd Neame for working hard to ensure that the day was a success.”
Communications executive Kathryn Tye, part of the Sheps Giving committee that organised the event, added “It was a fantastic day and we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported us. People were incredibly generous, and we are thrilled with the amount raised for a very worthy cause.”
