What are we looking for in Kent?
Shepherd Neame know that having a dedicated kitchen team on board is key to the success of any of our sites, so we are always on the look out for new talent to join our ever expanding portfolio of over 500 chefs across our retail estate.
We currently operate 66 fast paced and busy sites across London and the South East, including premium hotels with wedding & event facilities and beautiful village pubs with fine dining restaurants to modern contemporary bars & kitchens, so chances are we have the perfect site for you.
Due to growth in the number of our managed sites in Kent we are looking to recruit Head Chefs, Sous Chefs, Chef De Parties, Commis and Trainee.
Our tried and tested in-house 'Chef Development Programme' and 'Mentoring Scheme' also means that we are perfectly equipped to train and develop chefs at all levels, so that you can reach your career potential with us in the longer term. It’s a hard job, but the camaraderie and the banter you get working in a kitchen are unbeatable, it’s great fun.

Tony, Head Chef at the New Flying Horse, Wye
Tony started out as a kitchen porter but soon found himself moving up the career ladder and working in two rosette establishments, honing his skills in fine dining.
In addition to his duties as head chef, Tony is also now helping the next generation of chefs in his role as a mentor.
It’s hard work, but the more you put into it the ore you will get out of it. Catering is a long term career and Shepherd Neame will support you as much as they can.
One of the most rewarding things is coming up with your own ideas and seeing them put into practice, then the feedback you get is immediate, if the customers like it they’ll let you know and that’s a great feeling.
It’s also rewarding for me to be able to help other chefs at earlier stages in their careers.

Krystian has been with Shepherd Neame since 2005 and worked his way up from kitchen porter to Head Chef.
There are not too many companies who would give you the opportunity and support to train from kitchen porter to head chef.
Shepherd Neame really helped me, and I always felt they were trying to bring out the best in me. The training I have had is excellent and I am always learning new things
Ellina, Development Chef
Ellina has been with Shepherd Neame for more than 11 years, for much of that time as head chef at the Wharf, Dartford. Originally from Russia and having studied industrial design at university, Ellina began her career in catering almost by accident.
With little experience beyond studying and teaching the violin she responded to an advert for a kitchen job that required no previous experience. She immediately discovered a passion for cooking and within a year of starting she had worked her way up to chef de partie, and was on her way to becoming head chef.
If you opt for a career in catering you’ll never be without work, there is so much demand for good kitchen staff.
It’s also a great way of experiencing different cultures not just through discovering new tastes and foods but through the people you work with, as most kitchens have many different nationalities working there.
Kitchens work as a team and it’s hugely rewarding when you work well together and at Shepherd Neame it feels like a family.
There’s very clear career development and if you have the talent and the appetite to work they’ll support you and help you to reach your goals.
