The BuildingSituated in the back streets of Greenwich, the Ashburnham Arms is fine two-bar pub built circa 1851-1855. It was previously owned by the Lion Brewery, which was on the South Bank near County Hall. The lions on the south side of Westminster Bridge used to be outside the brewery gates. Shepherd Neame bought the pub from Charringtons in 1975. Edgar Wallace the famous writer was born in 1875 in 7 Ashburnham Grove. The pub with comfortable bars now caters mainly for the local community. A recently built conservatory which overlooks the small patio is a pleasant area to sit and enjoy a selection of Shepherd Neames's fine ales and lagers as well as to sample the tasty home cooked bar meals.
