Just outside Ongar, the Woodman is a beautiful old country pub, dating from 1674. It is traditionally furnished, oak beamed and has a lovely old inglenook fireplace – and is listed in The Good Pub Guide.

The Woodman’s versatile restaurant serves hearty home-cooked food such as beer-battered fish and chips, pies, and bangers, but offers different specials to tempt the more adventurous –  Moroccan lamb or oriental spiced fish being just two of many. The Sunday lunch roasts are not to be missed either.

We have a very spacious garden, with a patio terrace which is popular for al fresco eating. Families find a warm welcome; there is a great play area for the children, plus a field with goalposts to occupy the older ones. There is plenty of parking too.

We can cater for all sizes of private function.
