An unspoilt, popular pub in the middle of the town, close to the cinema. The Bear is more than 500 years old, with a traditional feel. It's thought some of the oak beams in the main bar were originally part of a ship built at the nearby boatyard.
The lunchtime menu is popular with regulars and visitors alike and includes home made pies and fish & chips. Food is also served on Tuesday to thursday evenings.
There is a monthly general knowledge quiz held on the last Monday of every month and a sports quiz held on the second Monday of every month.
Real ale is a big feature here with the pub featuring in the Good Beer Guide for the last three years.
