The Crown & Sceptre is a handsome town centre pub dating back just over 100 years, and typical of turn of the century architecture.
It is a friendly little place, loved by the locals and welcoming to newcomers, with thriving pub sports teams, BT Sport for Premier League Football and Rugby matches, and late opening on Fridays and Saturdays.
One of its most interesting and unusual features is the outdoor skittle alley in the small, attractive courtyard garden, full of flowers year round, with lots of comfy seating and a covered smoking area - a lovely place to pass a summer's evening or while away an hour with a pint or a delicious coffee and your newspaper on a sunny Sunday morning.
New tenant John 'Tony' Tarason works with his wife Maggie and three adult children to make this not just a pub for the local 'regulars', but a friendly place to be whether you are six or eighty-six.
Children are well catered for and always welcome, with art materials. books, and other indoor activities while outside they will find sand and water play, a small climbing frame with toddler slide and other things to keep them busy while the grown-ups have a well earned drink. Tea and coffee are served all day with free low-sugar squash drinks for the little ones.
