The Railway Hotel is a real community local in the large village of Walmer, near the east Kent coast. Local bands play once a month and a group holds regular book readings there.

The former coaching inn, built in 1815, also sponsors a local rugby team, the Deal and Betteshanger Lions. Its own two football teams play in the Deal and District League. Visitors are, of course, warmly welcomed to the pub, which also offers pool and darts. Birthdays, christenings and other events can be celebrated in its separate function room.

About four times a year the pub hosts a themed music festival, with as many as 10 bands playing live on a stage in the large garden.

The pub, which boasts a large open hearth fire and disabled toilet, is easy to reach, being just off the main road between Dover and Deal.
