Named on Tottenham Hotspur FC’s website as the number one pub in Kent for watching football and close to the University of Kent, The Monument is an extremely popular Canterbury pub.
Indeed football and rugby matches are a main focus on Sky Sports at The Monument where all major live sporting events are shown.
History lovers and pilgrims are also regulars in the pub which sits opposite ancient St Dunstan’s Church, the likely resting place of the head of martyred Saint Thomas More. The Monument is also the favourite meeting place of the local bell-ringing society.
The pub serves good traditional fare, serving 20-25 covers, with all vegetables home-grown and it also hosts regular global-food nights.
The pub sponsors two football teams, two darts teams, and university rowing and ice hockey teams. Games on offer to visitors include darts, pool, bat and trap, cards and board games. There is also a large and colourful flower garden.
