Market Inn

Market Inn

Situated in the ancient market town and Cinque Port of Sandwich, the Market Inn was first licensed as a pub in 1874 although the building is almost certainly much older. In the early days, the pub was the meeting place for traders bringing their livestock to the market, hence of course its name. It continues the tradition of warm hospitality to this day.

In recent years The Market Inn has been sympathetically modernised and has a fresh, contemporary and inviting feel, yet retains its warmth and character. Indeed, customers can still cosy up in an armchair in front of the original inglenook fireplace on chilly winter days. Darts, pool, and the increasingly hard-to-find bar billiards can be played here, and there is live music every couple of weeks.

Before silt made the River Stour un-navigable, Sandwich was one of the main UK ports and much of the evidence of its wealth and importance is still visible today, with medieval buildings aplenty. Nearby are interesting place to visit such as the White Mill Folk Museum and Richborough Roman fort, plus nature reserves, golf courses and river trips from the town.
