The Red Lion is a warm friendly pub with a real home from home atmosphere. We believe it’s the little things that make a difference; well kept Kentish ales and a selection of wines by the glass, hot drinks, cosy log fireplaces & fantastic fresh home cooked food served in an informal, relaxed setting.
First licensed in 1415 the pub was undoubtedly in situ and trading long before this date. Situated on the London to Brighton coaching road via Speldhurst the pub has been providing weary travellers refreshment for six centuries. Opposite the pub is a row of cottages where the clients would rest their horses would be stabled just along the lane. The original part of the building structure has original oak beams from merchant ships & a classic inglenook fireplace stands at the end of the bar. Standing in the community since the days of Lower Green being considered its own Hamlet, the pub serviced the community even as far as to be the local mortuary in the unavoidable but unfortunate event.
