The Welcome Stranger’s name says it all – this is a very friendly, traditional British pub, with a sport-loving community of regulars with a warm welcome for all visitors.
The building itself is a large Victorian edifice, with a long horseshoe shaped central bar, with three darts boards and a pool table to one side and comfortable seating to the other. It is usually busy and vibrant, with the pub supporting no less than eight darts teams as well as pool teams, a football team and two petanque teams – many of whom will be busy practicing while enjoying the great beers and conversation. Board games, crib and dominoes are also available for customers’ to play.
Outside is a private car park, a large garden with pretty planting, a separate patio area, and, unusually, a petanque rink – great fun on a summer’s evening!
Food is served all day every day – a wide range of sandwiches, baguettes and the locally renown all-day full English breakfast.
