The Plough is a historic pub in the large village of Brabourne Lees in the middle of the Kent countryside. Just off the A20 between Ashford and Folkestone, the pub makes a great stop when travelling to and from the Channel Tunnel.
Built in 1750, one of The Plough’s former incarnations was as an officers’ mess in the Napoleonic wars. It has retained its historic charm with numerous oak beams, inviting inglenook fireplace and traditional decor. It is also reported to have its own ghost.
The large beer garden, with beautiful countryside views, has a bat and trap pitch - a traditional Kent pub game - and regular barbecues are held in the summer.
Inside, a pool table and board games ensure there is always some entertainment on hand and there are also regular live music performances, charity events and theme nights.
The excellent restaurant, listed in The Good Food Guide, serves imaginative home-cooked meals in a broadly traditional style, often using vegetables, herbs and fruit from the garden.
