King William IV

King William IV

The King William IV, located in the heart of the Wealden village of Benenden, is an excellent unspoilt ‘local’ that dates back to the 16th century. Close to the attractive village green, cricket pitch and church, this pub is also near to Sissinghurst Castle and the famous girls’ boarding school.

The cosy interior includes wooden beams, inglenook fireplace and dried hops festooned above the bar while outside customers can enjoy the pretty beer garden which includes a great play area to keep children amused.

Originally a chapel and resting place for pilgrims on their way to Canterbury, the pub was also a haunt of the infamous smugglers, the Hawkhurst Gang.

Food is one of the main attractions here with a home-made pies and pates a speciality, along with a wide range of beers and good wines.
