Anchor

Anchor

Set in a stunning location on the banks of the River Colne, this pub has a unique riverside setting with private moorings for yachts and cruisers and a terrace right on the water's edge.

It  is easily accessible by road, public transport and river. There are numerous woodland and riverside walks around the traditional seafaring village of Rowhedge, and nearby are two established RSPB reserves at Fingringhoe and Abberton.

As well as catering to the many visitors, some of whom come specially from London (to Wivenhoe then via ferry from Wivenhoe to Rowhedge), the Anchor is a popular community pub, supporting groups such as the PTA, Young People’s MS group and it also hosts many charity events.

There are always games to play in the bar – jenga is particularly popular, and there is usually a game of scrabble or crib going on.

The busy and vibrant conservatory restaurant serves fine food, usually classic English dishes, and specialises in fresh fish. In summer eat outside on the fantastic terrace, or in colder months cosy up in front of one of the two large log fires at either end of the bar.
