The second oldest pub in Hastings, the Anchor’s name is believed to originate from the fact the sea once came to the front door and boats would moor outside.
Nowadays it is located safely inland in the old back lanes and the hustle and bustle of George Street. Inside the bar is cosy and traditional with a small inglenook fireplace, wood burner and wooden floors. The tasty homemade food includes Sunday roasts and steak and mushroom pies.
It is a lively, community pub with Tuesday evening quizzes and live music every Thursday and Friday. Not always a pub, it was once used as a court house - local legend says the bar is haunted by a ghost of man who was sent to hang. A family and dog-friendly retreat.
